Sarah Rose
Sarah Rose (she/her) is an artist-geographer interested in the intertwined environmental and social histories of a site, and explores these connections through photography, papermaking, bookmaking, and hand cut collage.
Rose has exhibited at John Michael Kohler Arts Center, Sheboygan; Filter Space, Chicago; Weinberg/Newton, Chicago; Sullivan Galleries, Chicago; SITE Galleries, Chicago; and the University of New Mexico Sevilleta Field Station, La Joya. As an educator, Rose has been a guest lecturer or visiting artist for courses at Colby College, School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) and the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD). Rose has conducted cyanotype workshops with individuals of all ages, most recently at the Kendall-Frost Marsh Reserve in collaboration with the San Diego Bird Alliance. Her work has been supported through the Polar Archives Research Award at The Ohio State University’s Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center Archival Program, the Fellowship at the Suraj Israni Center for Cinematic Arts, the Graduate Research Fellowship at the University of Michigan Biological Station, the PIER Scholarship at Scripps Institution of Oceanography’s Center for Marine Biodiversity and Conservation, PGAC Research and Travel Award at Newnham College (University of Cambridge), REU National Science Foundation and Sevilleta Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) Art and Ecology Grant at the University of New Mexico Sevilleta Field Station, Summer Travel Grant at SAIC, Paul Weigner Scholarship at Northshore Art League, and Photography Scholarship at Justine Stevens Foundation. Rose was awarded a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Anthropocene Studies with Distinction from the University of Cambridge’s Department of Geography and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) with Distinction from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where she served as a Presidential Scholar. She is a PhD candidate in the Art Practice concentration with a Specialization in Interdisciplinary Environmental Research at the University of California San Diego.
